Review: Investor & Accountancy Evening V
On Monday the 6th of February, the fifth Risk Investor & Accountancy Evening was held. During this event we welcomed Robeco and Red Bull. Additionally, during this fifth evening the new upcoming Risk Board 2017-2018 was announced.
The reading of Robeco contained a good balance between theory and practice regarding the topics finance and investment. Especially, Robeco gave a broad and comprehensive overview of their company, services and activities. Those activities are mainly focused on investing in divers portfolio’s containing a long term horizon. In relation to this strategy, Robeco illustrated more in depth how their investments are executed and substantiated. After this, the students worked on an assignment provided by Robeco. The objective was to assess whether or not to invest in a case-company: BMW or Volkswagen and Facebook or Amazone. Groups were made and after a while, the groups gave a short pitch providing arguments whether or not to invest in a specific case company. Creative and nice arguments were given supporting their arguments. In the end, a group winner was chosen and received a nice present.

After three evenings where we discussed different aspect of accountancy, we talked on the fourth and final Accountancy Evening about controlling. Anne Velt gave a lecture about what her job as controller contents and what she faces daily in her work as controller. After a short introduction in which the organisation Red Bull was clearified, we got an insight in what an organisation expects of a controller and what the content is of a controllers job in general. It became clear that it is more than operating within given budgets and calculating results.
After these interesting lectures the Risk Candidate Board was announced. In the upcoming months they will prepare themselves for their coming board year. Overall, the fifth Investor & Accountancy Evening was once again a success providing the ability to learn new theoretical and practical implications. We hope to see you on the next Investor Evening!
