Welcome Letter by the Chairman

Hello everyone!

My name is Douwe and I am currently the chairman of Risk. Welcome to the Risk Magazine. This week, it is my pleasure to write an article for the Magazine. We hope you have had a pleasant summer, despite being stuck at home due to COVID-19. On behalf of the entire Risk Board I want to welcome you to the University, the Faculty, and of course to our study association!

Risk is the study association for the financially interested student. We organize many formal and informal activities in the areas of Accountancy & Controlling, Finance, International Financial Management and Management Accounting & Control. That's really fun today! For the past couple of weeks, we have been working hard to prepare ourselves for this upcoming academic year, where lots will be online. Although this can be seen as quite the challenge, we are really happy and excited with all that we have planned for this year. Together with many of our Active Members we set up several events, which are held in the next few weeks.

This month though, we organize the Investment & Acountancy Evenings on Monday the 14th September. The M&A department of NIBC will be speaking on the Investment Evening and Inge Gerrits of PwC will provide the presentation of the Accountancy Evening. Later on in September, the Accountancy Tour takes place. These three days filled with company visits gives the students the perfect opportunity to experience life on the work floor. If this sounds interesting to you, I would definitely sign up at our website! The deadline of application is on Sunday the 13th of September, so be sure to be on time. In the last week of September (on Monday the 28th of September), the London Banking Tour takes place. The London Banking Tour is an inhouse recruitment event that is based in the financial centre of London. However, this year the physical tour will be replaced by an online event, considering COVID-19 and the restrictions this brings to physical events. 

Besides events, Risk also provides plenty of other career support. For example, all Risk Members have free access to the Career Guide. This guide provides help to everything you need to know about career opportunities after your study. We also offer Career Consults, in which students can get help in their search for an internship or starters functions. Our Vice-Chairman Gijs is more than happy to discuss all the possibilities with you during a cup of coffee. Last but not least, Risk organizes the Career Day each year. This day helps you prepare for an interview or a job with activities, like professionalizing your LinkedIn profile, writing a decent motivational letter, and performing during the actual interview. Altogether, Risk is the place for guidance in your career path!

Currently, we are looking for new Active Members to join one of the Risk Committees. Active Members are students who are part of a Risk Committee and organize several events, both formal and informal. The committees where there are spots available are: Dutch Banking Tour, Accountancy Day, Advisory Tour, Conference Day Organization, Activity Committee and Magazine Committee. Doing a committee gives you the opportunity to develop yourself next to your studies and to expand your network.
